1 yard deadstock natural content jacquard knit, 28 gauge copper wire, 100% wool yarn.
A knitwear project exploring distortion, stretch, warp, tension, opacity, soft and hard, metallic and matte. Spiral panels instead of side seams with ruched inset panels causes a visual distortion of the gingham weave, drawing attention and confusion to construction details. Copper bustier is made on a domestic knitting machine with a handweaving technique to create the wool plaid pattern. Intricate details and questions of materiality and texture invite you to look closer for reward. Understanding and investigation go hand in hand, leading to greater perception of the rest of the world.
As the first of my knit-wire designs incorporating metal with wool, this was an incredibly rewarding exploration of technique and jumping off point for larger and more elaborate metalwork.
Design featured in the Fall 2024 Don Magazine Runway.
