Structured Bodice, March 2025

secondhand cottons, filet lace, machine-knit brass and fiber (mixed, secondhand)

This is a structured bodice, fully lined with hairoform, siri, boning, a bias horsehair hem, and a hand-pricked separating brass zipper. Since this project was purely technical in assignment, my surface decoration was also a personal technical exploration. Using manual transfer and manipulated punch card techniques on several knitting machines, I made many iterations of diamond shaped knit pieces in fiber and brass wire. The final pieces are tacked on by hand with a filet lace piece at center front, visually playing with the negative and positive space in both fabric weave and surface design.
