Decomposition Sequence
I left five yarns of different natural fiber contents in the Fenway Muddy River, and documented their change over two weeks. The different types of fiber include wool, alpaca, mohair, and silk. These fibers went through a lot of different weather conditions over the process, ranging from sunny 50 degree days to the Muddy River freezing over at -20 degrees. I’m very passionate about sustainable fashion and the use of and natural fibers, and because I know that organic fibers decompose, I wanted to focus my project on the timeline of this; on the life cycle of the smallest unit of material that goes into an item of clothing. To show this sense of time, change, and decay, I edited the photos together into one ‘panoramic’ image, so that as you follow the yarn with your eyes you feel the fibers fall apart and begin to rejoin the natural landscape.
